Conservation of biodiversity has always been an objective of environment education. IES has expertise in and has done a wide range of activities in this area. It coordinated the ‘Education, Awareness and Training' Semiars/workshops on National Biodiversity Conservation. Several of its Ecodevelopment Programmes looked at biodiversity conservation as a major thrust. There have been many school programmes, manuals and training programmes which had, and have, biodiversity as the focus area.
In 2006, IES conducted a seminar on “Biodiversity and Conservation of medicinal and Aromatic Plant in Rajasthan to highlight and enhance the different scope of medicinal and aromatic plants, its different aspects of their cultivation, collection, conservation, preservation and maintaining efficacy.
Indian Environmental Society will be celebrating 2011 as International Year of Forest.
2011 is the International Year of Forests and forest biodiversity is the theme for this year's International Day of Biodiversity (IDB). Designation of IDB 2011 on the theme of forests provides Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and everyone interested in forests, the opportunity to raise awareness of the issue and increase practical action.
